Supervision within the field of psychosocial work has since the early 1980’s gone through a tremendous development in Sweden. The development can be seen as a result of the increased complexity in social work and as a response to the need of increased awareness and professionalisation within the social work field.
The Swedish Association of Supervision in Psychosocial Work is a forum for exchange of experience and further professionalisation of the profession of supervision. The association was founded in 1984 with the purpose to create opportunities for collegial support and professional development. It also serves the purpose of a consultation body and an agency with experts in matters that are in the field of supervision.
The Swedish Association of Supervision organises supervisors that hold a university degree in supervision in psychosocial work with at least 30 ECTS credits or a corresponding education that is estimated to be equivalent. The purpose of the association is to bring about professional supervision of high standard.
The website of the Swedish Association of Supervision www.handledarforeningen.com contains information about the association, higher educations in supervision, research in supervision, links to relevant and interesting websites. It also provides a register of trained supervisors with the purpose to bring about assignments in the field of supervision.
